Integra Engineer Ryan Shares Formula for Environmental, Health + Safety Success
Ryan Buchanio of Integra’s Mansfield, Massachusetts manufacturing site started his career following in the footsteps of an important role model, his brother. Ryan’s brother attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy, a small college, where he specialized in engineering, met meaningful contacts, and secured his first job. Upon graduating from the academy, Ryan’s brother entered the professional world as a compliance coordinator at a hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal company. After witnessing his success, Ryan was inspired to pursue his bachelor of science in marine safety & environmental protection from the same school and later obtained a certified safety & health official credential.
Before working at Integra, Ryan held managerial roles in environmental, health & safety (EHS) at companies with specializations ranging from hazardous waste recycling to food and beverage. When he joined Integra more than three years ago, Ryan was humbled to work at an organization that makes life-saving medical products. Ryan finds his role in supporting the development of these crucial healthcare devices and technologies extremely meaningful and rewarding. Over the years, he established EHS programs and policies from the ground up at the Mansfield facility. Ryan also served as a primary liaison with regulatory and compliance agencies. Through this experience, he grew professionally while expanding the plant and Integra’s EHS department. Ryan also learned the importance of cross-functional teamwork when creating and implementing various EHS programs and policies.
According to Ryan, EHS works best through an employee-first lens:
“The number one goal of any given business day is to get people home the same way they came into work, while maintaining the highest quality and productivity standards. I am proud to collaborate with my Mansfield colleagues who share these priorities and a commitment to science, technology and helping others in a state-of-the-art facility with extensive resources at our disposal.”
Outside of his career, Ryan applies his analytical mindset in his personal life while watching Patriots and Bruins games. In addition to being an avid fan of Boston sports teams, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife Jenn and dog Cooper.
