A Future Filled with Endless Possibilities
At just 22 years old and a few months shy of her graduation from Bryant University, Jenna Pothier was diagnosed with Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP), a rare, slow-growing, malignant skin cancer that develops in the middle layer of the skin. She was away on a spring break trip with friends. Nothing could have prepared her for this diagnosis and what she initially thought was just a cyst on her forehead that could be removed cosmetically. The first thing she did was call her parents who immediately went into execution mode to find her the best surgeons and care possible.

Living a Meaningful Life
Growing up, Snow Tseng has always loved the outdoors – hiking, swimming, playing golf. All of that came to a halt when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor while pursuing his graduate studies in Chicago. Over time, Snow developed symptoms such as slurred speech, impaired vision, and hydrocephalus.

Second Chances
In January 2020, James Brownfield was helping his friend finish loading and securing equipment on an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. As James turned around to check traffic, the same tractor-trailer ended up hitting him, causing him to fall. As he lay on the ground, he saw its tires coming toward him and remembers thinking he was about to experience a tragedy.

From Tragedy to Triumph: Jalen Richardson
On Memorial Day Weekend in 2016, Jalen Richardson, a 20-year-old Georgia Army National Guardsman, headed downtown on his blue and white Suzuki GSX motorcycle for a quick bite to eat with friends. Out of nowhere, another motorcyclist lost control of his bike and crashed into Jalen. The accident sent Jalen and his bike sliding, rupturing the Suzuki’s gas tank. Gas spilled onto the road and onto Jalen before exploding and shooting flames 20 feet into the air.

Sallie
In Her Shoes: Sallie's Story
At just 12 years old, Sallie Wilson was diagnosed with diabetes. Back in the 1970s, advancements in diabetic care were limited, which prevented Sallie from living a normal life. The diabetic struggle followed Sallie into adulthood, ultimately damaging her kidneys and landing her on the transplant list. After receiving a new kidney from a donor who had passed away, Sally was able to continue her advocacy work promoting organ donation.

Margo Casselman was only eight years old in 2000 when a horrific car accident nearly led to the amputation of her leg. “The car we were in got T-boned by another car that ran a red light. The vehicle I was in rolled, and I was ejected and ended up underneath the vehicle,” Margo recalls.
