Integra Team Member Ashley is Proud to Help Patients Like Her Mom

When Ashley Alcorn arrives at Integra’s manufacturing plant in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is motivated by more than merely completing the tasks of the day. In 2005, her mother was in a car accident that exacerbated a condition called trigeminal neuralgia, which impacts facial and cerebral sensation. Because of her pain from the trauma, her mother was afraid to be active or even go far from home. After exploring her options, she underwent brain surgery at the Mayfield Clinic where the physicians used Integra products, such as the head clamp, to help change her life.

Ashley remembers speaking with the surgeon in depth about the procedure and was moved to be an employee at the company that makes the devices that would be used. After the successful surgery, Ashley’s mom recovered and was able to resume her normal routine including the activities she loves the most: painting and spending time with her grandson.

Ashley has worked at Integra for nearly a decade after being referred by a friend who was employed at the company. Before joining Integra, she was a manager in the food industry. She was attracted to Integra’s collaborative, rewarding culture and ability to make an impact on people’s lives. Ashley’s first position at Integra was in decontamination to ensure the surgical kits were sterilized, and she now supports the tissue ablation products by testing them for use. There are many factors motivating Ashley to stay at Integra for a long time:

“My favorite part of working at Integra is the pride I feel, knowing that I am helping surgery patients like my mother in a way that can be lifesaving for them. I also like my colleagues and our benefits. We have a culture where we trust each other to do our jobs because the results speak for themselves. Our company supports our health and wellness. We have a good paid-time-off program that works well for my family. I hope to have a long career at Integra and retire with the company.”

Ashley has witnessed Integra’s substantial growth over the years, both in the Cincinnati plant and the company overall. Her advice to new employees is to embrace a team philosophy by getting to know your colleagues and having open communication with them so you can find support if you need it. Her team is always willing to take the time to train others, no matter how busy they are. In her free time, Ashley enjoys taking her three-year-old son on excursions to museums and amusement parks.
