Miracle Hands

In 2018, Clément, an eight-year-old French boy, developed macrophage activation syndrome and subsequently underwent a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, he developed graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), which occurs when the transplanted cells attack the recipient's own cells. Consequently, Clément’s fingers retracted, leaving him severely disabled.

One year later, Clément underwent surgery on his left hand, involving a classic skin graft, to free his fingers. This led to a prolonged and arduous recovery period. In October 2023, Clément underwent surgery on his right hand. In this case, the surgeon used IDRT to restore thumb-index clamping by releasing the first commissure and enabling the fingers to be released, restoring the ability to grip objects.

The outcome of this last operation was very positive for Clément. He experienced less pain and recovered quickly, which enabled him to do many more things in the future that he couldn't necessarily do before, such as drive a car or even ride a bike.

INDICATIONS

Integra Template is indicated for the postexcisional treatment of full-thickness and partial-thickness injuries where sufficient autograft is not available at the time of excision or not desirable due to the physiological condition of the patient. Integra Template is also indicated for use in reconstruction of postexcisional, full-thickness defects of the integument where there is, in the opinion of the treating surgeon, a potential benefit to the patient by improving the reconstructive outcome or decreasing their mortality/morbidity. 

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Use of Integra Template is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bovine collagen, chondroitin sulfate derived from shark cartilage, or silicone materials. Integra Template should not be used on clinically diagnosed infected wounds.
